The British Library is pleased to be able to offer an internship opportunity in the Library’s Asian and African Collections Department to candidates with degree-level knowledge of, or first-language proficiency in one of the priority languages identified below and a degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to the chosen theme.
The priority areas and languages for 2016 are:
- Armenian
- Sinhalese
- Archaeological photographs of sites in Syria
- Publications proscribed by the Government of India, 1910-1947
The intern will work on conversion of our old card and printed catalogues into records for the British Library’s main catalogue, enabling these important collections to be more easily discoverable by Library Readers and therefore opening up access to the Asian and African language collections. Working alongside curators, the intern will also gain experience of the full range of curatorial work in the department, through a professional development plan developed in discussion with the curatorial team.
The term of internship is either full time (36 hours per week) for six months, or part time (over a longer time-period, to a maximum of 6 months’ full-time equivalent), and completed on or before 31 March 2017. The salary is £9.40 per hour, which is the London Living Wage. The internship will start after relevant security clearances are obtained. Candidates must have eligibility to work in the UK.
