The Bodleian Libraries encourage research that makes use of Bodleian Special Collections, an outstanding resource for scholarly study and discovery, containing rare printed books, classical papyri, medieval and renaissance manuscripts, literary, political and historical papers, archives, printed ephemera, and maps and music in both manuscript and printed form. Fellowships offer scholars the opportunity to undertake an uninterrupted period of research with the Bodleian collections.

Humfrey Wanley Fellowships
Supporting a short period of research into any topic and in any field of study, using the Special Collections of the Bodleian Libraries. Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 3 months.

Sassoon Visiting Fellowships
Supporting a short period of research into any topic and in any field of study, using the Special Collections of the Bodleian Libraries. Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 3 months.

Byrne-Bussey Marconi Fellowships in the History of Science & Communication
Supporting a short period of research into any aspect of the history of science and communication, using the archive, manuscript, object and rare book collections of the Bodleian Libraries and the Museum of the History of Science. Byrne-Bussey Marconi Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 4 months.

David Walker Memorial Fellowships in Early Modern History
Supporting a period of research into any aspect of Early Modern History, using the archive, manuscript and rare book collections of the Bodleian Libraries. Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 3 months. Research proposals are invited for projects in the study of early modern history, using any of the manuscripts, maps, music and early modern printed materials in the Bodleian Libraries Special Collections.

Albi Rosenthal Visiting Fellowship in Music
The Fellowship provides for a period of residence in Oxford and research in the Special Collections of Music in the Bodleian Libraries. The Bodleian Libraries’ music collections are among the largest in the country and contain printed music from the 16th century onwards and large numbers of music manuscripts from medieval times to the present day. Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 3 months.

Eligibility

• Bodleian Visiting Fellowships are intended for applicants external to the University of Oxford.
• Applicants for Fellowships should hold a doctorate at the time of application, or equivalent qualification in their field of research (e.g., holding a curatorial post in a museum or library).
