The Department of History at Emory University invites applications for the Betty Gage Holland Professor of Roman History at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank. The chronological and geographical scope is defined broadly: the Roman world from 400 BCE to circa 600 CE. We seek areas of specialty that build on departmental strengths and interdisciplinary interests, such as slavery, race-making and concepts of ethnicity, empire, health and medicine, gender, law, and religion. Scholars who use digital mapping and data collection and who are involved in collaborative projects or public facing scholarship are also of interest.
The successful applicant will play a critical role in maintaining vibrant programs in Ancient History, the Ancient Mediterranean, and Medieval Studies. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who identify as BIPOC, LGBQT, and disabled, as well as women, protected veterans, and individuals who would bring additional diversity to the university’s research and teaching endeavors.
