The Department of Classics and Letters at the University of Oklahoma is searching for a dynamic scholar, teacher, and leader to serve as the inaugural Barnett Family Professor of Archaeology and Director of a revitalized Center for Mediterranean Archaeology and Civilization in the College of Arts and Sciences. The position will include tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The teaching responsibilities for the position include two courses per semester.
The Department seeks an archaeologist committed to interdisciplinary methodologies in research and passionate about teaching classical archaeology. The Department seeks to hire a scholar with research interests in environment, health, ancient economies, urbanism, or landscape archaeology. Specialists of any period from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity are welcome to apply.

The Department also seeks a scholar who is a builder and collaborator to join a collegial, high-achieving team committed to teaching the Classics and enhancing the reputation of the University.
With strong support from OU alumni, this position will provide an archaeologist with a platform to build a world-renowned research program. Moreover, the holder of the Barnett Family Professorship will have the opportunity to establish initiatives across OU's campus, connecting Classics with areas of excellence in climatology, environmental history, and molecular anthropology. OU already has a strong presence in Italy through our Arezzo campus, and scholars with an interest in Italy are encouraged to apply.
