A position as Associate Professor in History of Ideas/Intellectual History, specializing in Antiquity and/or the Middle Ages, is available at the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Arts and Ideas, University of Oslo.
The applicant must document proficiency in Greek or Latin and have research qualifications within the study of Antiquity, late Antiquity and/or the Middle Ages. Scholarly breadth within the field will be given emphasis. Scientific competence in the reception of ideas originating in Antiquity is desirable. The successful candidate must document familiarity with History of Ideas/Intellectual History as a scholarly discipline. Experience from interdisciplinary project collaboration will be an advantage.
The successful candidate is expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD candidates, participate in teaching and in exam settings and assessment at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Department.
The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, the appointee will be expected within a two-year period to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
