The Departments of Classics and History of Art at Yale University are looking to hire an Assistant Professor (tenure track) for an initial term of five years in Roman Art and Material Culture beginning July 1, 2023. We are looking for a scholar with an energetic research agenda, whose demonstrated expertise can complement the existing strengths and curricula of both departments. Specialization is open as to region, time-period, materials studied, and methodological approach. We are especially interested in candidates who study the entanglements of the Roman world and other cultures.

This is a joint appointment. The teaching expectation is typically 4 courses per academic year, in addition to service contributions to both departments, including mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.  

The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the time of hire.
