Fordham University, Department of Theology, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship, beginning Fall 2016, in the field of Syriac Christianity. Candidates must have the ability to teach both the content of Syriac theological literature and the Syriac language. The ability to teach courses on Islam at the undergraduate level is also required.
Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses and mentoring of doctoral students, as well as undergraduate general education, upper level courses for majors, and elective courses. The chronological period of specialization is open. Depending on period, the successful candidate might contribute to a variety of doctoral fields of study, including Christianity in Antiquity and History of Christianity, and to a variety of Fordham research centers, including the Orthodox Christian Studies Center and the Center for Medieval Studies. Expertise in the histories and literatures of Middle Eastern Christian communities and in the interactions between Christian and Muslim and/or Jewish communities is especially desirable.
