The Department of History at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, invites applications for two full-time assistant professors in the field of History of Science.
The candidates’ research record and teaching should focus on one of the following fields:
- History of science in the Islamic world from the Medieval or Early-Modern to the Modern era;
- History of science in the Ottoman World from the Medieval or Early-Modern to the Modern era;
- History of science in Europe and the US from the Medieval or Early-Modern to the Modern era.
Preference will be given to candidates who pursue interdisciplinary insights in the field of history of science and are closely engaged with sub-branches of history and other social sciences.
Ability to teach undergraduate courses and graduate seminars in the history of science, along with survey courses in the candidate’s broader field (Islamic or Ottoman or European/American history) is expected.
Applicants must have a PhD by the time of the job offer, excellent command of English, as well as advanced knowledge of a second language in the candidate’s field of expertise.
Successful candidates, once hired, will teach a minimum of two courses per semester, as well as balancing an active research program with service to the Department.
Please note that these positions are open to Turkish and non-Turkish citizens. The salary is commensurate with qualifications, paid in Turkish liras.
