The History Department at the University of the Fraser Valley in the College of Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position in pre-modern history of the Mediterranean World commencing August 1, 2023. This would be a full-time position located in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. The University of the Fraser Valley is a fully accredited, post-secondary institution with a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence.
The successful candidate in this position will be asked to teach introductory courses on ancient Greece and Rome, as well as other lower-level courses from our European history offerings. In addition, they will teach upper division courses in their research areas. Through their research and teaching, the successful applicant will demonstrate a broad approach to the pre-modern world, moving beyond Europe to develop topics in pre-modern Africa, the near east and Asia. The ability to teach and mentor undergraduate students outside of research specializations will be expected. Evidence of scholarly achievement in research and writing as well as proof of undergraduate teaching excellence is required. Demonstrated experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g. hybrid, on-line, and computer-assisted learning) and the ability to engage students in technology-enhanced learning is also required, along with positive teaching experiences in face-to-face classroom settings.
The successful candidate must possess a PhD in History (in hand or expected by September 1, 2023) with a specialization in pre-modern history, evidence of successful teaching experience, and scholarly output in their research area, commensurate with career stage.
