The George Mason University Department of History and Art History invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Art History. Candidates for this position should have an active scholarly agenda in the field of pre-modern Islamic, Medieval European, or Byzantine art history. We especially welcome candidates whose research demonstrates critical engagements with global, transcultural, and trans-regional conversations in their discipline.

Candidates will have a 2/2 teaching load and will have broad latitude in developing an array of undergraduate and graduate courses. It is expected that the candidate will teach undergraduate courses across geographical areas and chronological periods on arts of the pre-modern Islamic world (Mediterranean, Middle East, or Central Asia), European Medieval, and Byzantine art, as well as Graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates with experience teaching these topics and who can develop new course offerings in related areas are particularly encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. by August 2020
