The University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks an art historian with a specialization in either Medieval or Renaissance Art. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to research and teaching. In addition, responsibilities will include active participation in departmental organization, student mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and committees that support the educational mission and initiatives of the School and University, including MFA thesis committees.
Faculty have the opportunity to benefit from and contribute to the mission of the Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, an internationally acclaimed center for the study of the history and culture of the fourth to seventeenth centuries. Marco offers a rich schedule of lectures, workshops, and symposia; multiple fellowship opportunities for faculty and graduate students; a graduate certificate and summer Latin courses; and an undergraduate degree program. Upper-division courses in Medieval and Renaissance art history are cross-listed in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. There are also many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, public engagement, and research support through the Humanities Center and the McClung Museum at the University of Tennessee. Depending on research interests, the successful candidate may apply for the UT Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.
Tenured and tenure-track professors at the School of Art teach two classes a semester.
Ph.D. required. Teaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching is required.
An active record of presentations and publications with clear potential for achievement on a national and international level is desirable. Interest and ability to teach a course on the history of collecting and museums.
