The Department of English at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in any area of medieval literature and culture, 800-1500. We are especially interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests include one or more of the following: race, class, globality, multilingualism, gender, sexuality, embodiment, environment and animal lives, material texts and paleography. Penn medievalists work interdisciplinarily across campus.

The position entails teaching two courses per semester; one graduate and three undergraduate courses are taught in a typical year. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2022; the Ph.D. is expected by that date. The search committee encourages applications from both recent graduates and early stage assistant professors.
