The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Ancient and/or Medieval History to begin in August 2016. Area of specialization is open. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in history or a related field in hand at time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred. Ideally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in medieval European, Ancient Roman and Ancient Greek history and will have the opportunity to develop classes in their areas of expertise. Additional teaching requirements include service courses (i.e. introductory surveys, geography, methods, senior seminar). Ability/willingness to teach online courses is desired. UTRGV faculty will be expected to maintain an active research agenda.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in History or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed the Ph.D. by 1 September 2016 to be hired. The degree must include a minimum of 18 hours of History or history content graduate classes.

Specializations in both Ancient and Medieval history, evidence of a strong research agenda, teaching experience, and the ability to work with a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students.
