The Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA) at the University of Amsterdam is the department that houses research and teaching in the fields of ancient studies, classical languages and archaeology at Bachelor and Master level, combining interdisciplinary and disciplinary projects and courses in a lively environment focusing on innovative teaching and research across traditional borders. Besides contributing to the Archaeology and Ancient Studies Bachelor and Master programs, in cooperation with its counterpart at the Free University of Amsterdam, the Archaeology team also hosts a two year Research Master program Archaeology and Heritage. ACASA is closely connected to the faculty’s 4D Research Lab, which provides state of the art infrastructure, services and research in the field of digital humanities in both academic and non-academic contexts.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in archaeology with a research focus on digital archaeology and/or digital heritage studies. Experience in a managerial position in fieldwork, a research laboratory or a commercial archaeology unit is highly appreciated. We also especially welcome applicants holding certificates and/or showing accredited skills in relevant specialized software or hardware applications, and we highly value experience of engagement outside the academic sector, with museums and/or heritage practice and policy-making groups and agencies.
