The Department of History at Binghamton University, State University of New York, seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the ancient Mediterranean as shaped by the Greeks and Romans. We especially encourage applications from scholars with research expertise in the half millennium dominated by the Roman Empire. The Department will consider candidates from a wide variety of thematic or methodological specialties, but seeks to hire a scholar whose research enhances current strengths in areas such as imperial and colonial encounters, environmental history, and sexuality and gender.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach, 1) an introductory survey of early civilizations, 2) intermediate courses in the Greek World, Roman Republic and Roman Empire, 3) a thematic lecture course on law in the ancient Mediterranean, and 4) graduate courses according to individual expertise. The Department of History has a vibrant doctoral program in a broad array of fields. The successful candidate may also contribute to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) interdisciplinary program.
Requirements
Candidates must have a PhD or its equivalent in hand by the start of the appointment.
