American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) supports and administers programs of fellowships for scholarly research and for language study in Turkey.

American Research Institute in Turkey Fellowships for Graduate and Post-Doctoral Research in Turkey
ARIT Fellowships support research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and dissertation research fellowships may be held for terms of one month to one academic year. ARIT offers research and study facilities as well as connections with colleagues, institutions, and authorities through its branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara.

Eligibility: Scholars and advanced graduate students engaged in research on ancient, medieval, or modern times in Turkey, in any field of the humanities and social sciences, are eligible to apply.  Student applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by June 2022, and before beginning any ARIT-sponsored research. Non-U.S. applicants who reside in the U.S. or Canada are expected to maintain an affiliation with an educational institution in the U.S. or Canada.

ARIT National Endowment for the Humanities/ARIT Advanced Fellowships
ARIT NEH Fellowships provide longer term support for advanced research in all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history.  The fellowship tenures range from four months to a full year.

Eligibility: Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply.  They may be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S.
