The Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for its 22nd Postgraduate Colloquium.
Empires and/or states in the eastern Mediterranean shared many common threads and influenced one another in architect and art from late antiquity to the present day. Architecture and art both shaped, and were/are shaped by, economic structures and activities. This colloquium invites papers and posters on the themes of architecture and economy to think about the questions of built environment and everyday experiences of people through textual sources, archaeology, and material culture.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Political representation
- Cultural aesthetic; heritage
- Urbanism
- Mobility
- Marketplaces and economic exchange
