6th Dorushe Graduate Conference in Syriac Studies, Brown University, May 8–9, 2016
The Department of Religious Studies at Brown University and the Dorushe Syriac Studies graduate student group invite proposals for the 6th Dorushe Graduate Student Conference in Syriac Studies, to be held at Brown University (Providence, RI) on May 8-9, 2016. We welcome graduate student proposals for papers in all subjects, disciplines, and methodologies focusing on and utilizing Syriac. Potential topics may include but are not limited to:
- Syriac literature and culture(s)
- Histories of the various Syriac churches
- Interactions with Syriac Christianity and Islam
- The Syriac Renaissance
- Syriac language studies
- New methodologies, sources and perspectives in Syriac Studies
- Syriac Christianity and Judaism
- Syriac and Pagan Traditions
- Inscriptions, documentary, and material evidence
- Asceticism and monasticism
- Biblical versions and commentaries
In order to promote and diversify interaction at the conference, we are inviting proposals in two different categories:
- 20-minute conference papers
- 8- to 15-page dissertation interim reports.
The latter will be circulated in advance to prepare for discussion at the conference.
There will be two keynote addresses, delivered by Prof. Adam Becker (New York University) and Dr. Ute Possekel (Harvard Divinity School/Gordon College).
