The Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies (DSHCS) at the University of Vienna seeks to fill four positions of University Assistants ("prae doc"). Successful candidates conduct their research and work in one of the DSHCS' seven research clusters (Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval Studies; East European and Eurasian Studies; Archaeology and Material Culture; Art History and Visual Culture; Social and Economic Spaces; State, Politics, and Governance in Historical Perspective; Women’s and Gender History). They transcend periods, disciplines, and regions and offer the exceptional opportunity to study in a truly cross-disciplinary setting.
The DSHCS invites application from graduates of all historical-cultural subjects with an outstanding master degree who seek to work on their doctoral project within the vital and international atmosphere of the University of Vienna. Doctoral candidates are expected to conclude a doctoral thesis agreement in 12 months. They teach undergraduates and contribute to the activities within the DSHCS. The DSHCS offers its fellows a structured doctoral program and excellent supervision. Moreover, it promotes international mobility, networking and individual career planning through scholarships and workshops.
The employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 3 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
