The University of Michigan’s Center for Armenian Studies (CAS) is pleased to announce the 2022-23 competition for the postdoctoral and visiting scholar fellowships at the University of Michigan to foster teaching and research in Armenian Studies.

The Center for Armenian Studies serves students, faculty, and the broader community by furthering the understanding of the history and culture of Armenian societies worldwide through pioneering research, innovative instruction, and a commitment to building partnerships on campus and beyond. Through its work in the United States and abroad, CAS strives to contribute to the scholarly analysis and understanding of the challenges the Armenian people have faced across the globe. Our intellectual mission is to engage in critical Armenian Studies as an interdisciplinary endeavor and to contribute to broader thematic and topical discussions including but not exclusive to history, memory and politics, literary and cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies, childhood studies, human rights, genocide studies, diaspora studies, Mediterranean studies, materiality, nation, and nationalism.  

A successful applicant’s work should speak to the global, interdisciplinary, and multidimensional vision of CAS and contribute to broader thematic and topical discussions that are at the heart of the center's intellectual mission.

The Center for Armenian Studies is pleased to announce two postdoctoral fellowship opportunities for junior scholars:

  • Manoogian Postdoctoral Fellowships in Armenian Studies: This full-time twelve-month position is open to junior scholars who have completed a PhD within the last three years. Fellows will be expected to participate regularly in the CAS events, present one public lecture, and teach one undergraduate course while in residence.
  • Manoogian Postdoctoral Fellowships in Armenian History: This full-time 12-months position, with an option for a one-year extension pending curricular needs and progress, is open to junior scholars who have completed a PhD within the last five years. Successful applicants should demonstrate scholarly excellence in the field of Armenian history. A successful applicant’s work should speak to the global, interdisciplinary, and multidimensional vision of U-M history and contribute to broader thematic and topical discussions that are at the heart of the Department of History’s mission, including but not exclusive to gender & sexuality, childhood studies, human rights, genocide studies, diaspora studies, global history, Mediterranean studies, materiality, nation, and nationalism. The fellowship will offer a vibrant intellectual environment in which outstanding junior scholars will conduct their research. Fellows will be expected to teach one course per year, and participate in scholarly events and activities in the Department of History and the Center for Armenian Studies, the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies, and present one public lecture.

The Center for Armenian Studies (CAS) invites senior scholars in the Humanities and the Social Sciences to apply for the Manoogian Visiting Scholar Fellowship in Armenian Studies. The purpose of the fellowship is to diversify the Armenian studies curricular offerings to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Michigan.

Visiting scholars in Armenian studies, who are invited for one semester (Fall or Winter), will be asked to teach one class on a topic in the social sciences or the humanities related to Armenian studies, participate in CAS sponsored events, and present one public lecture. Fellowships may also be offered for mini-courses to be taught over three or four weeks.
