The Trustees of the Loeb Classical Library Foundation announce funding of four two-year postdoctoral fellowships to be held in the academic years 2021–2023. A further four fellowships will be funded for the academic years 2022–2024.
The purpose of this two-year cycle of postdoctoral fellowships is very specific. The current economic downturn and uncertainties about the immediate future of higher education pose a particular challenge for the newest members of the teaching/research profession. These fellowships are intended to support the work of promising scholars for the next two to three years, specifically those scholars who will be going on the market more or less for the first time in this period.
Fellowships are open to doctoral dissertation holders in the US or abroad in any area of classical studies, completed in the academic years 2019/20 or 2020/21.
Fellows should aim to establish a visiting scholar relationship with an academic institution (in some cases the home institution may be the most suitable) in which they can best carry out their research program.
