The British School at Rome offers short-and long-term awards for pre- and post-doctoral applicants.
Rome Awards
Eligible research areas are the archaeology, art history, history, society and culture of Italy, from prehistory to the modern period. Rome Award are open to applicants who have begun a programme of research in the general field for which the Award is being sought, whether or not registered for a higher degree. The Awards are not normally suitable for people in established posts. The awards are intended for an extended period of study in Italy, normally 3 months.
Rome Fellowships and Scholarships
Eligible research areas are the archaeology, art history, history, society and culture of Italy, from prehistory to the modern period. Applicants for Rome Fellowships normally should have submitted their doctorate not more than two years previous to the closing date for applications. Applicants for Rome Scholarships at the pre-doctoral level normally will have begun a programme of research in the general field for which the Scholarship is being sought, whether or not registered for a higher degree. The duration of each award is 9 months.
